The centre of interest for this painting will of course be the Lion's face, so I have begun by blocking in that area with oils, this will further help me to judge contrasts etc

Here I have blocked in an underpainting using just 1 colour, Burnt Sienna, this will act as a map for me to follow when laying on the oils.
